Rockford Register Review"The Chicago Harp Quartet that played in Freeport on March 31 was beautiful, outstanding, wonderful — there just are not enough adjectives to describe the excellence of their program. "click here for more info
Sydney Symphony Orchestra Review"The orchestra played seamlessly throughout but a special mention to Emily Granger who displayed a wonderful touch on the harp and to the woodwinds who gave a warm depth to the music."click here for more info
Dance Sketches Review 9/10 StarsHarp Column Magazine - "It’s a combination of the virtuosity of the individual players—Marguerite Lynn Williams, Julie Spring, Catherine Yom Litaker, and Emily Ann Granger—and the fiery conversation they have as a group that grabs from the first notes."

soirées d’été CD Review" I must tell you I hear superb playing, virtuosas clearly enjoying cramming together four giant instruments and making music not in the solitude of the back of an orchestra counting rests before a big solo or in a frilly outfit playing non-stop for a fancy party."

"Overall, a well-played album with superb choice of repertoire"

I walked the Camino de Santiago!I spent one month from December 19 to January 23 walking across Spain with my dearest friends, Michael and Lesley. We began our walk in the French Pyrenees and walked all the way to the Atlantic Ocean some 900 kilometres/550 miles.
Emily finishes Te Araroa Trail!Four and a half months, 3,000 kilometers, 4 million steps, a lost boot, a few slips and lots of blisters I walked the length of New Zealand. From Cape Reinga to Bluff, both the North and South Islands, this was my greatest adventure and biggest achievement of my life. http://www.teararoa.org.nz
Sydney Opera House Debut REVIEW! 4/5 Stars"Virtuosic and versatile, an evening showing off the neglected riches of the recorder and the harp."

"Granger and Crossley should of course be commended for their musical skill and technical prowess, after a concert of largely faultless, well-executed playing, but for constructing an evening of such bold, uncompromising, pioneering music they deserve a standing ovation. Trailblazers, while not always popular, should be fearless, and this was a performance that wasn’t just brave, but also brilliant."

“American Harpist, Emily Granger delivered a defiant demonstration, not just of impressive virtuosity, but of eye-opening versatility as well.”- Limelight Magazine

"Emily is Chicago's great loss and our great gain... since coming here (she) has firmly established herself as an outstanding addition to the Australian concert scene." - Sydney Arts Guide

Growing up in Kansas City Missouri, Emily began playing the harp at age 11. She has performed across the world as guest principal harp with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, Canberra Symphony Orchestra, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Orchestra Victoria, Opera Australia Orchestra and Sydney Chamber Opera.

Upcoming performances include a performance with the Verbrugghen Ensemble, a concert of world premieres with percussionist Tim Brigden at the Extended Play New Music Festival, a recital with the Chicago Harp Quartet at the University of Minnesota, recitals at the Melbourne Recital Hall, Sydney Opera House Utzon Room and City Recital Hall with the Omega Ensemble and recitals with the Nexas Quartet at the Melbourne Recital Centre and Independent Theatre. Emily and her partner, composer Tristan Coelho are Artists-in-Residence at the Mt. Wilson Artist Residency in January 2020 where they will present a concert of new works written for harp by Tristan as well as an interactive sound walk through the Mt. Wilson community.

Some of Emily's most notable performances include performing for the French President and Australian Prime Minister, with Sarah Blasko at the National Gallery of Australia, for the feature film Peter Rabit, a sold ou Sydney Opera House Utzon Room concert with recorder virtuoso Alicia Crossley and guest appearances on the Steve Harvey Show.

Emily is a founding member of the Chicago Harp Quartet, "The quartet that put harp quartet's on the map" - Harp Column Magazine. The quartet has performed at Carnegie Hall Weill Recital Hall, Kennedy Center Millennium Stage, Curtis Institute of Music, National Theater of Cuba and Lyon & Healy Hall. CHQ has released two albums to great acclaim and is on the highly esteemed roster of Goodman Artists.

Emily has performed at the Sydney Festival, Ravinia Festival, Craven Creek Festival, Bellingen Festival, Ear Taxi Festival, Charterhouse International Chamber Festival, and Lyon & Healy 150th Birthday Festival. She has collaborated and performed and recorded with Hugh Jackman, Janelle Monáe, Sarah Blasko, Lior, Diesel, Yo-Yo Ma, Renée Fleming, Jonas Kaufmann, the International Chamber Artists, Flinders String Quartet and Nexas Saxophone Quartet.

Emily has always been dedicated to performing new music and working with composers. Emil spent her undergraduate years performing with the IU New Music Ensemble. While living in Chicago she performed with Ensemble Dal Niente, Fulcrum Point New Music Ensemble and at the Ear Taxi Festival. Emily has premiered works by Elliot Gyger, Richard Mills, Bernard Andrès, Alfredo Rolando-Ortiz, Carolyn O'Brien, Hilary Purrington, Nicholas Davies, Elliott Bark, Tristan Coelho, Mark Oliverio, Andrew Batt-Rawden, Martin Kay and Marguerite Lynn Williams.

As an educator, Emily’s students have been awarded prizes at the Mexican International Harp Competition, American Harp Society Chicago Solo Competition and have held positions with the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra, Midwest Young Artists and Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra. Emily served on the faculty at VanderCook College of Music, British School of Chicago, and Chicago Harp Ensemble while living in Chicago. She has taught at the Interlochen Center for the Arts and presented masterclasses and educational residencies at Indiana University, New York University, Kansas University, American Harp Society Lyra Chapter, Play on Philly!, Vanderbilt University and American Harp Society National Conference with the Chicago Harp Quartet.

She earned her Bachelor of Music from Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music where she studied with famed pedagogue, Susann McDonald, and her Masters of Music from the Chicago College of the Performing Arts studying with Principal Harp of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Sarah Bullen later served as the Principal Harp of the Chicago Civic Orchestra. Emily spent her summers training at the National Repertory Orchestra and National Orchestral Institute. Emily studied with harpists Naoko Yoshino, Detroit Symphony Orchestra Principal Harpist, Patty Masri-Fletcher, Isabelle Perin, Lynne Aspnes, and former Sydney Symphony Principal Harpist Louise Johnson.

As an avid hiker, Granger successfully walked the Te Araroa - a 3,000-kilometer trail across New Zealand taking 138 days to complete the journey from Cape Reinga to Bluff. In addition, Emily has walked across Spain on the Camino de Santiago (900-kilometers) in January 2018 as well as a through hike of California's John Muir Trail (400-kilometers), climbed 14 of Colorado's highest mountains in one week and Australia's 15 highest mountains.

Emily splits her time between her home in Sydney and in Chicago with her quartet.

About The Artist
Recently completing a residency in Cuba, the Chicago Harp Quartet comprises artists who have individually regularly been heard with the city’s major ensembles— the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Lyric Opera and Civic Orchestras, and the Chicago Philharmonic, among others—and have performed together on the stages of Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center. In addition to performing original transcriptions of classics, the quartet also regularly commissions new works and collaborates with such cutting-edge artists as Third Coast Percussion and Ho Etsu Taiko, leading to its featured performance at the Lyon & Healy 150th anniversary gala and its debut CD, Soirées d’été.

Belsazzar's Feast, Sydney Symphony Orchestra
Sydney Opera House
Experience the decadent grandeur of Walton's Belshazzar's Feast and the humour and drama of a new secular oratorio in this choral-orchestral spectacular.

The writing's on the wall for Belshazzar in Walton's monumental choral-symphony. The Old Testament story calls for music of 'savage splendour', as ferocious and indulgent as the king himself, and Belshazzar's Feast is easily the most sensational music for choir and orchestra ever written. For Hungarian Peter Eötvös, composing means enchanting his audience through sound, and his new oratorio (co-commissioned by the SSO and recently premiered in Salzburg) does exactly that. His chorus sings 'Hallelujas' quoted from different periods in music. His protagonist, the tenor, delivers prophecies with a stammer (the subtitle is literally 'Stammering Oratorio'). The secular text is a serious commentary on the world today – 'We put up fences everywhere...' – and yet the music is infused with humour. We can't wait to introduce this new work to Australian audiences!
